His Holiness the Fourteenth Dalai Lama is the spiritual leader of the Tibetan people. He frequently states that his life is guided by three major commitments: the promotion of basic human values or secular ethics in the interest of human happiness, the fostering of interreligious harmony, and the preservation of Tibet's Buddhist culture of peace and nonviolence. He fulfills these commitments through his public talks, widespread international visits, and many publications. Since his original autobiography, My Land and My People (1962), he has published over 110 books.Sofia Stril-Rever is a Sanskrit scholar and French writer who coauthored the Dalai Lama's My Spiritual Journey(HarperOne, 2009).
