This edition of A Course in Miracles is known as the Original Edition, reflecting the revision originally undertaken by Helen Schucman and Bill Thetford and completed in 1972. The manuscript underlying this edition was rediscovered in 1999 and first published in 2006 by the Course in Miracles Society (CIMS). The Course is presented in three parts: the Text, the Workbook for Students, and the Manual for Teachers.

The Text presents the theoretical foundation of the Course's metaphysical thought system. It addresses fundamental questions about the nature of reality, the mind, forgiveness, and our relationship with God and with one another. Through its distinctive language and thought structure, the Text provides the conceptual framework upon which the Course's practical teachings rest.
