Near the newly built building complex with the blatant name of Lofos Proodos, hidden among the houses of a more humble neighborhood, there is a small playground. There is a distressed toy there, a hippopotamus, known as Kabahiko, whose presence warms the hearts of the neighborhood's residents. Local legend says that if you touch the part of his body that corresponds to your own ache, you will be healed.
Five very different people - a once excellent student, a young mother without friends, a wedding planner on sick leave, a young man who claims a fake injury, and a magazine editor with impaired vision - will confess their problems to Kabahiko, seeking in his serene personality the strength to face their personal challenges.
"The Hippo Healer of Hinode Park" is a tender book about hope and friendship. Through the everyday stories of five unforgettable heroes, Aoyama traces an often unexpected path to healing our wounds, through connecting with our inner world and those around us.
