Amanda Coreishy had a traditional Catholic upbringing in Trinidad, went to church, took the Sacraments and read the Bible, only to convert to Islam at seventeen, to the consternation of her family, and live as a hijab-wearing, believing, practising Muslim for twenty-three years of her adult life.She's journeyed from faith to faithlessness and considers herself privileged to have seen the world from both sides of the religious divide. Her writing calls up stories from the ever-shifting ground, where patriarchy and religion clash with freedom and sexuality. Amanda Coreishy stole her father's surname for her nom-de-plume and assumes her husband and children are grateful for the distance her pseudonym puts between them and her writing. She lived much of her life in Trinidad and now resides in the UK.
