When I return from my travels, people often ask me, "What does this have to do with us?"... "Why?" some ask accusingly. "Why should we burden ourselves with this? What will change if we know?"... None of the madness that engulfs one country or another remains confined to that country alone in our time. We have always thought we could turn a blind eye to the atrocities taking place in Syria. What do we have to do with Syria's problems? And now the Syrian civil war is a matter of concern for all nations.
This book is an important document and a genuine plea for more humane asylum policies. In it, the author presents interviews with several girls and women who were kidnapped by Boko Haram and later managed to escape. The book also includes photographs taken by photographer Andy Spira. They want to show us the reality of this group and the true crimes it is committing against the Nigerian people. They then plead for help in any way possible.
