The story takes place in 2066, in a Greenland that is warmer, more crowded, and lacking fresh food. Sixteen-year-old Joni lives in Shemed, one of the resettlement towns where residents of American coastal cities were relocated after the recent sea-level rise, to live in skyscrapers that reach up to a hundred stories high. Joni is determined to grow her own rooftop garden. We find ourselves immersed in the story as we follow Joni's journey of self-discovery and what she can offer the world. And who knows, perhaps we too will be inspired to follow Joni's example and embark on our own journey to explore a more natural lifestyle and start growing our own gardens.
